The best seasons for Makalu base camp & Sherpani Col with Amphu-Labtsa-La:
For this classic adventure to Makalu Base Camp with Sherpani Col and Amphu Labtsa-La Pass Treks. The best times are spring and autumn/fall seasons, from March to May, and September to November.
Springtime with longer sunny days, is the best season for treks around the Himalayas. But cold mornings, late afternoons, and nighttime can expect snowfall sometimes. During spring from March to May, the whole valley and hills will be ablaze with wildflowers in full bloom. Especially the rhododendrons of various species and colors from tall trees to bush, as well the national flowers of Nepal.
The next best time is autumn from September to November, most days are fine and clear. But shorter sunlight hours, much cold morning and late afternoon until nighttime. Can expect snowfall sometimes above 3,000 m high on walks and crossing high passes.

The Makalu & Barun Conservation and National Park is enriched with 47 varieties of orchids, and 67 species of rare aromatic plants.

Over 400 species of birds have been sighted in the Makalu-Barun area, including two species never before seen in Nepal. The spotted wren babbler and the olive ground warbler. Wildlife includes the endangered red panda, musk deer, Himalayan black bear, clouded leopard the elusive snow leopard. Religion, Cultures, and History:
Nepal with two major religions Hinduism and Buddhism, mostly populated by Hindus of approx. 70 %. Includes Buddhism of 25 % the rest 5 % are other minor religions. But the higher hills and mountainous regions are inhabited by Buddhist followers. On this adventure, trekkers will come across villages steeped with Buddhist monuments and monasteries. The upper high region of Makalu and Khumbu areas populated by the highlanders, the Sherpa of Tibetan origin.
The heritage and cultures are linked with their Tibetan predecessors, the history of Sherpa people migrated around Nepal high Himalayas. As early as the 6th to 7th Centuries. The mid-hills tribes of Sankhuwas Sabha district with mixed hill people and cultures of Hindu and Buddhism.
Mt. Makalu at 8,463 m/27, 766 feet, stands as world’s 5th highest peaks in between Mt. Everest and Mt. Kanchenjunga. Mt. Makalu first ascent by French and Swiss Expedition on May 15, 1955. From then on the Mt. Makalu is often ventured for the climb till present. The Northern side of Mt. Makalu is Tibet / China, from Makalu base camp. Trekkers can enjoy the famous Khansung Face or Eastern Face of Mt. Everest.
Food & Accommodation on Makalu Base Camp & Sherpani Col Trekking:
The accommodation en route Makalu base camp and Sherpani Col adventure, spending overnights in a simple lodge. The first part of the journey from Tumlingtar to Tashi-Gaon. Lodges are available with minimum facilities and simple foods. All lodges provide common baths and toilets, where trekkers need to pay extra for hot showers. The lodges are very simple and basic on this trek, the best is to spend overnights in tented camping.

The camping gear will be carried throughout the trekking duration. Includes two men’s tents, a dining tent as per the size of a group with a separate kitchen department, and toilet tents. The camping staff of cook, kitchen crew, trekking guide, and porters. The food will be a set menu cooked in the camping kitchen from LPG gas or Kerosene stoves.
The food menu is provided from Continental, Chinese, Indian, and Nepali, including Tibetan / Sherpa dishes. Staying in local lodges offers only basic foods like Nepali famous Dal Bhat. A boiled rice, and lentil soup with vegetable/ meat curry). Includes Tibetan food fried /soup noodles or dumplings / Mo-Mo either veg or meat stuffed and local breads.
Camping is most enjoyable, having great variation of foods, from breakfast, lunch and dinner with afternoon tea and snacks.

On this trek you will be engulfed within pristine natural surroundings enclosed by towering mountains and crossing over high passes. It is an exciting adventure traversing from one scenic valley of Barun to another beautiful areas of Khumbu Valley around Everest.
This trek is the most exciting high-altitude adventure around the Himalayas, where all members should be physically fit. For the challenges crossing over Sherpani & West Col 6, 135 m and 6,142 m. Including the last final pass over Amphu Labtsa-La at 5,780 m to reach Imjatse Valley around Khumbu and Everest.
The adventure starts from Tumlingtar, and continues towards alpine hills.
The walk leads to absolute mountain wilderness on leaving the main village of Tashi-Gaon. Enjoy climb to Khongma High Ridge, offer spectacular views of
Mt. Makalu, Baruntse Himal and Kanchenjunga towards the east.
The trail follows to cross a high ridge over small passes of Keke, Tutu, and Shipton-La to reach scenic Barun Valley. The walk continues towards the west end of Barun Valley, then reaching Makalu Base Camp amidst remorseless fields of glaciers.
From here onwards, our true adventure starts to cross over the high Sherpani and Makalu West Col. The trekker needs to be equipped with good climbing gear to negotiate the technical challenges. Crossing the high passes Sherpani and Makalu West Cols, the adventure reaches Hongu Valley and Panch Pokhari. A glacial pond, and then the climb leads to cross the last pass over Amphu Labtsa.
Enjoy the climbing to cross over the last high pass of the adventure, over a rocky moraine of ice and glaciers with a long descent to Imjatse Valley. The walk leads close to Island Peak Base Camp and then towards the first human settlement at Chukung. Located, in the far eastern Khumbu and Imjatse Valley on the foot of Lhotse and Nuptse peaks.
From Chukung on the main trail of Everest areas, with down and up to the beautiful Tengboche monastery. Then reaching back into tree lines and lush green vegetation, as walk takes you to famous Namche Bazaar.
The walk finally ends in Lukla for scenic sweeping flight back to Kathmandu. After a great and wonderful experience on Makalu Base Camp with Sherpani Col and Amphu Labtsa-La Pass Treks.
