The best seasons for Larke Peak Trek & Climb:
The best times for the trek and climb of Larke Peak are spring and autumn/fall seasons. Spring begins from March to May, and autumn from September to November. Springtime with longer sunny days, is the best season for treks and climb, as well as for stunning views of mountain range. However, cold mornings and in the shade as well as the nighttime, can expect snowfall sometimes.
Autumn from September to November one of the best times for treks and climbs, most days are fine and clear. But shorter sunlight hours, much cold morning and late afternoon until nighttime. Can expect snowfall sometimes above 3,000 m high on walks and climbs.
Geographical Landscapes & Vegetation:
Nepal is a landlocked country with the world’s highest peaks and mountain range known as the Himalayas’. The country with five categories of landscapes from the lowlands of the Terai belt. Which extends from east to far west, then towards north starting with Siwalik / Churi Hills. Then stretches to the Mahabharata range of high mid-hills and continues towards higher hills and ridges, known as Greater Mahabharata.
The landscapes then end in a massif of mountains, the Himalayas,
or an evergreen snow range of peaks. The treks and climbs take you around the Far North Mid-West Himalaya range of Manaslu Upper Valley, close to Manang district. The areas around Larke Peak are enclosed by an array of snow-capped peaks of Annapurna, Manaslu, Damodar, and Himlung Himal.
The vegetation is of mixed with rain and alpine forest, the mid-hills covered in rhododendron, blue pines, and firs. Includes oaks, hemlocks, and magnolia with some bamboo grooves. Higher above 3,000 m the tree lines drop for short alpine bush of juniper and azalea.
Religion, Culture, and History:
Nepal with two major religions Hinduism and Buddhism, mostly populated by the Hindu’ of approx. 70 %. Includes Buddhism of 25 % the rest 5 % are other minor religions. But the higher hills and mountainous regions are inhabited by Buddhist followers. On this trek and climb to Larke Peak, trekkers will come across villages steeped with Buddhist monuments and monasteries.
The native of Upper Manaslu Valley is known as the Bhotias of Tibetan origin descendant. Migrated to the northern valley of Manaslu around remote north Gorkha district as far as back to 16th Century.
The local name for Manaslu is Kutang, which means a flourishing country for harvesting high-altitude crops of barley and wheat. However, the name Manaslu comes from an ancient word, it means mind or soul of the god almighty. Similar to the holy Lake Manasarover near Mt. Kailash in Southern West Tibet. From earlier days’ till the present the natives of Manaslu barter and trade with Tibet. The ancient Trans Himalaya Salt Trade Route between Nepal and Tibet still exists across the border to Tibet.
Which is close to Upper Manaslu Valley. But over the years the trade between the borders is much less than in the early days.

Larke Peak Trek & Climb is an adventure quite different than most popular trekking peaks in the Nepal Himalayas. Larke Peak lies hidden behind far north of the massif Manaslu Himalayan range of peaks. Located close to the famous and popular trekking pass of Larke-La at 5,106 m /16,752 feet high.
The Larke-La Pass which is the boundary of the Gorkha and Manang districts, is situated at the end of Manaslu Valley rim. The striking Larke Peak is located at a height of 6,249 m/20, 502 feet high. An enjoyable and exciting peak to climb with some technical difficulty to tackle to reach the summit of Larke Peak.
Larke Peak Trek & Climb follows the same route of Manaslu Circuit from the low farm areas of Maccha-Khola. The trek then leads to climbing towards cooler hills of Jagat, and Philim villages unto Deng, Namrung, and Lo-Gaon. To enter the picturesque high Manaslu Valley to reach Sama-Gaon, situated in the heart of Manaslu Himalaya. From Sama-Gaon after spending a rest day for acclimatization and exploring the local culture and viewpoints. The trek follows higher to the last village of Samdo and then heads towards Dharmasala. Located at the end of the Manaslu Valley rim, also known as Lake Phedi, at the bottom of the pass.
The real adventure begins from Dharmasala with climbs up towards Larke-La pass to reach Larke Peak base camp. From the base camp and after a good preparation getting ready for the big ascent to the summit of Larke Peak.
The climbing grade is PD + which means “Per Difficult with plus”, the grading comes from French/Swiss Alpine Climbing Systems. Straight forward climb encountering few difficult sections to negotiate with steep vertical ascent to the summit.
From the top, rewards with alluring panoramic views of towering snow-mountains range. After a strenuous and exciting adventure, a long descent leads towards the Manang area at Bhimphedi on crossing Larke-La Pass. But rest of the walk on an easy and moderate downhill path through dense forest to Dharapani. At Dharapani, the adventurous trek and climb conclude, then enjoying an interesting drive back to Kathmandu.
