The Best Time for Wildlife Photography around Dolpo:
The best times to explore wildlife around Dolpo are spring and autumn/fall. Including monsoon and summertime from June to August. Spring begins from March to May, and autumn from September to November. Spring and summer time with longer sunny days, is the best season to explore for wildlife photography. As well as for stunning views of the mountain range, but cold morning time, and in the shade until nighttime. Can get snowfall sometimes during the spring season also, but very wet with rain around mid-hills in monsoon times. But very green with lush vegetation when mountain animals are in abundance.
The next best time is autumn, which begins from September to November is one of the best times for treks and climbs when most days are fine and clear.
But shorter sunlight hours, much cold morning and late afternoon until nighttime. Can get snowfall sometimes on walks above 2,500 m where mountain animal dwells.
Geographical Landscapes & Vegetation:
Nepal is a land-locked country with the world’s highest peaks and mountain range known as the Himalayas’. Have five categories of landscapes from the lowlands of the Terai belt. Which extends from east to far west, then towards northward, starting with Siwalik / Churi Hills. Extend to the Mahabharata range of high mid-hills and continue towards higher hills and ridges, known as Greater Mahabharata. The landscape then ends with a massif of mountains, the Himalayas, or an evergreen snow range of peaks. The wildlife photography treks take you around Nepal’s Far North Western Himalaya range. The area is well hidden amidst an array of snow-capped peaks of the massif Kagmara and Kanjibrora Himal range. Which is also en route towards the Tibet / China border with views of Dhaulagiri Himal east of Dolpo.
The vegetation around Dolpo is filled with luxuriant forests, mainly comprised of blue pine, spruce, cypress, poplar, deodar, fir, and birch.
The Jugdula River valley consists mostly of Quercus species. The trans-Himalayan area has a near-desert type vegetation of mainly dwarf juniper and caragana shrubs. A great diverse from tall tree lines to remote barren and windswept country landscapes. The route to wildlife photography leads from Lower to Upper Dolpo and then around inner Dolpo. The Upper Dolpo is an extension of Tibet’s Far South West Plateau, where trade between the two countries still exists.
Religion, Cultures, and History:
Nepal with two major religions Hinduism and Buddhism, mostly populated by the Hindu’ of approx. 70 %. Includes Buddhism of 25 % the rest 5 % are other minor religions. But the higher hills and mountainous regions are inhabited by Buddhist followers. On this wildlife photographic journey, trekkers will come across villages steeped with Buddhist monuments and monasteries. The Dolpo district is populated by the Dolpa tribes of Tibetan origin. The heritage and cultures are linked with their Tibetan predecessors. The history of Dolpa people, the ancient indigenous mountain who settled in Nepal, as early as the 6th and 7th Century.
The Dolpo people also follow the ancient Bon culture of pre-Buddhism, a worship of nature and mountain spirit.

Both sides of Upper and Lower Dolpo provide prime habitat for the snow leopard and the blue sheep. Includes common mammals like goral, Himalayan Thar, serow, leopard, wolf, and jackal. Himalayan black bear, Himalayan weasel, Himalayan mouse hare, yellow-throated marten, languor, and rhesus monkeys.
The park is rich in many species of birds, such as the Impeyan pheasant (Danphe), blood pheasant, cheer pheasants, red and yellow billed cough, raven, jungle crow, snow partridge, and many others.
