The best times are spring and autumn/fall seasons, from March to May, and September to November.
Springtime with longer sunny days, is the best season for treks and climbs around the Himalayas. But cold mornings, and late afternoons until nighttime can expect snowfall sometimes. During spring from March to May, the whole valley and hills will be ablaze with wildflowers in full bloom. Especially the rhododendrons of various species and colors from tall trees to bush, as well the national flowers of Nepal.
The next best time is autumn from September to November, most days are fine and clear. But shorter sunlight hours, cold morning and late afternoon until nighttime. Can expect snowfall sometimes above 3,000 m high on walks and climb.
Geographical Landscapes & Vegetation:
Nepal is a landlocked country with the world’s highest peaks and mountain range known as the Himalayas’. The country with five categories of landscapes from the lowlands of the Terai belt. Which extends from east to far west, then towards north starting with Siwalik / Churi Hills. Then stretches to the Mahabharata range of high mid-hills and continues towards higher hills and ridges, known as Greater Mahabharata.
The landscape ends with a massif of mountains, the Himalayas amidst, a range of snow peaks. The treks take you to the Far North Mid-East Himalayas and beyond from Arun and Barun Valleys including Makalu Base Camp. To reach Khumbu and Everest region after a great big traverse over Sherpani and Makalu West Col.
This wonderful adventure takes you from low warmer sub-tropical areas of Sankhuwa Sabha to cooler alpine hills. As the climb continues leaving the last village of Tashi Gaon, then towards sheer Mountain Wilderness.
The trek leads through an enchanting forest of tall rhododendrons, pine, oaks, and fir trees with some bamboo. The green vegetation makes a great habitat for various species of mountain wild animals and bird life.

The Makalu & Barun Conservation and National Park is enriched with 47 varieties of orchids, and 67 species of rare aromatic plants.

Religion, Cultures, and History:
Nepal with two major religions Hinduism and Buddhism, mostly populated by Hindus of approx. 70 %. Includes Buddhism of 25 % the rest 5 % are other minor religions. But the higher hills and mountainous regions are inhabited by Buddhist followers. On this adventure, trekkers will come across villages steeped with Buddhist monuments and monasteries. The upper high region of Makalu populated by the highlanders, the Sherpa of Tibetan origin.
The heritage and cultures are linked with their Tibetan predecessors, the history of Sherpa people migrated around Nepal high Himalayas. As early as the 6th to 7th Centuries. The mid-hills tribes of Sankhuwa Sabha district with mixed hill people and cultures of Hindu and Buddhism.
Mt. Makalu at 8,463 m/27, 766 feet, stands as world’s 5th highest peaks in between Mt. Everest and Mt. Kanchenjunga. Mt. Makalu first ascent by French and Swiss Expedition on May 15, 1955. From then on the Mt. Makalu is often ventured for the climb till present. The Northern side of Mt. Makalu is Tibet / China, from Makalu base camp. Food & Accommodation on Makalu Expeditions:
The accommodation en route Makalu base camp, spending overnights in a simple lodge. The first part of the journey from Tumlingtar to Tashi-Gaon.
Lodges are available with minimum facilities and simple foods.
All lodges provide common baths and toilets, where trekkers need to pay extra for hot showers. The lodges are very simple and basic on this trek, the best is to spend overnights in tented camping.
Native Everest provides good camping equipment, for this remote adventure destination to Makalu Base Camp and for the climb.
The camping gear will be carried throughout the trekking duration.
Includes two men’s tents, a dining tent as per the size of a group with a separate kitchen department, and toilet tents. The camping staff of cook, kitchen crew, trekking guide, and porters. The food will be a set menu cooked in the camping kitchen from LPG gas or Kerosene stoves.
The food menu is provided from Continental, Chinese, Indian, and Nepali, including Tibetan / Sherpa dishes. Staying in local lodges offers only basic foods like Nepali famous Dal Bhat. A boiled rice, and lentil soup with vegetable/ meat curry). Includes Tibetan food fried /soup noodles or dumplings / Mo-Mo either veg or meat stuffed and local breads.
Camping is most enjoyable, having great variation of foods, from breakfast, lunch and dinner with afternoon tea and snacks.

Mt. Makalu Mountaineering Expedition is one of the most exciting adventures to experience around the Himalayas. Mt. Makalu towers above the picturesque Barun Valley at 8,463 m/27,766 feet.
The first ascent was by the French Expedition on May 15th, 1955. From then on, mountaineers often dare for the exciting climb to its black rocky pyramid summit top. The name Makalu means a great black refers to the top of Mt. Makalu.
It is one of the most challenging and Technical mountains, requiring the best equipment, endurance, and skills.
The only obstacles from the technical sections are the weather and frequent avalanches. The rest depends upon the climber’s fitness and health, the right altitude with determination. The success rate is lower than from other 8,000-meter peaks, regarded as one of the technical peaks to challenge. Nevertheless, it is enjoyable and leads to an exciting adventure to test one physical ability and skills in mountaineering.
In the past few decades’ various worldwide mountaineers have reached the summit despite its challenge to reach the summit.
Besides the exciting mountaineering adventure, the trek to Makalu base camp is equally fascinating. The trail follows from the lower warm sub-tropical farm areas of Tumlingtar and Arun River valley. The journey heads higher toward alpine green hills and then reaches the last permanent village of Tashi-Gaon.
The inhabitants are the Sherpa, the highlanders of the eastern Himalayas.
At Tashi Gaon, with an opportunity to observe the local impressive heritages and cultures similar to their Tibet predecessors.
The adventure from the last village of Tashi-Gaon follows towards a higher ridge amidst an enchanting forest of rhododendrons, pines, and firs. Then, the climb reaches the high Khoma Danda, and from here, the adventure leads to an exposed ridge to cross over small passes of Tutu, Shipton, and Keke-La. Then, the walk enters the Barun Valley and continues towards the end of Barun Valley to Makalu base camp.
Makalu Base Camp, stands close to Baruntse, Chamling, and Changtse Himal.
At Makalu Base Camp, have rest days for acclimatization and preparations, then 20 full days for the ascent of Mt. Makalu.
Members, guides, and staff will be engrossed for more than a week to ferry the load of gear and food. Storing at respective high camps for safe and successful climbing and descent requires a maximum of four camps. Makalu Base Camp, at 5,250 m / 17,224 feet high, is a perfect height for acclimatization.

After completing the endeavors of storing gear and food and checking the route of the climb. The leader and guide will decide on the final summit bid and start the adventure. Climb from the North-West route and take care of technical sections. After a few days of steady climb and short overnights at respective high camps. Then, for the final ascent to the summit on top of the world’s 5th highest Mt. Makalu.
Enjoy the stunning panorama of giant peaks that surround the top. Include close views of Mt. Everest and the rare Khansung East Face. As well as an array of snow-capped peaks includes views of the Eastern Nepal landscapes and across the borders to Tibet.
On completing the climb, feeling on top of the world, descend to base camp for the return journey. Depart from the Makalu base camp, heading towards the eastern end of Barun Valley, as the climb leads back into the forest at Mumbuk. The route follows along the high ridge to Khongma Danda and with a long descent to Tashi-Gaon and Seduwa villages.
Finally, the trek competes with the last steep climb to Num for an exciting drive to Tumlingtar Town. From Tumlingtar, a short scenic flight brings you to Kathmandu. Enjoying an overwhelming adventure and a great experience on the Mt. Makalu Mountaineering Expedition.
