The best seasons for Mt. Dhaulagiri Mountaineering Expedition:
The best times for the trek and climb of Mt. Dhaulagiri, spring and autumn/fall seasons. Spring begins from March to May, and autumn begins from September and end in November.
Springtime with longer sunny days, is the best season for treks, climbs and mountaineering adventures. As well as for stunning views of mountain range. However, cold mornings and in the shade as well as the nighttime, can expect snowfall sometimes.
Autumn of September to November, is one of the best times for treks and climbs and various adventures. Most days clear for views, but short sunlight hours, and much cold morning and late afternoon until nighttime.
Can expect snowfall sometimes above 3,000 m high on walks and climbs.
Geographical Landscapes & Vegetation:
Nepal is a landlocked country with the world’s highest peaks and mountain range known as the Himalayas’. The country with five categories of landscapes from the lowlands of the Terai belt. Which extends from east to far west, then towards north starting with Siwalik / Churi Hills. Then stretches to the Mahabharata range of high mid-hills and continues towards higher hills and ridges, known as Greater Mahabharata.
The landscapes then end in a massif of mountains, the Himalayas, or an evergreen snow range of peaks. The treks and climbs take you around the Far North Mid-West Himalaya range of Mt. Dhaulagiri close to Mustang and within Mygdi district. The areas around Mt. Dhaulagiri, enclosed by an array of snow-capped peaks of Tukuche, Nilgiri’s, and Annapurna Himalayan ranges.
The vegetation is of mixed with rain and alpine forest, the mid-hills covered in rhododendron, blue pines, and firs. Includes oaks, hemlocks, and magnolia with some bamboo grooves. Higher above 3,000 m the tree lines drop for short alpine bush of juniper and azalea.
Religion, Culture, and History:
Nepal with two major religions Hinduism and Buddhism, mostly populated by the Hindu’ of approx. 70 %. Includes Buddhism of 25 % the rest 5 % are other minor religions. But the higher hills and mountainous regions are inhabited by Buddhist followers. On this trek and climb to Mt. Dhaulagiri trekkers will come across villages steeped with Buddhist monuments and monasteries.
The native of Lower Mustang around Kaligandaki Valley is known as the Thakali of Tibetan origin descendant. Migrated to the Kaligandaki valley of lower Mustang around Nepal Far West. The local brings their cattle and yaks for grazing up to Hidden Valley during summer times of wet monsoon season.
The name Dhaulagiri comes from an ancient Sanskrit word, it means Dazzling, White, and beautiful and Giri for mountain. Located close to Mustang and more towards district of Mygdi.

Mt. Dhaulagiri Mountaineering Expeditions is an adventure around the Far Mid-West Nepal in Mygdi district. It is also close to the Dolpo and Lower Mustang areas. Mt. Dhaulagiri 8,167 m / 26,795 ft, stands high as the world’s 7th highest peak and is close to the Nilgiri’s and the Annapurna Himalayas. Separated, by the world’s deepest gorge Kaligandaki River gorge around Lower Mustang.
The word ‘Dhaula’ is an ancient Sanskrit language meaning a dazzling white and ‘Giri’ is a mountain or peak. Located at a Latitude of 28° 41′ 28.19″ North and Longitude: 83° 29′ 25.79″ East.
Mt. Dhaulagiri is a massif mountain range with groups of peaks, namely Dhaulagiri-I, II, III, and IV with Gurja Himal, Mani-Pathi.
Includes Putha Himal as well as Tukuche Peak which is north of
Mt. Dhaulagiri ridges. The first ascent to the summit of Mt. Dhaulagiri was on May 13th, 1960 by the Swiss and Austrian Expedition. Guided by a Nepalese Sherpa guide Nima and Nawang Dorje.
Since then it has been often climbed by the world-wide mountaineers, it is one of the most technical mountains to climb.
The straightforward and accessible route to the summit of Mt. Dhaulagiri is from the North-West direction.
Mt. Dhaulagiri is also seen clearly from the Pokhara city and valley towards the west, with Annapurna towards the north. Bounded to the north, and southwest by the tributaries of the Bheri River and on the southeast by the Mygdi Khola.
Including the Kaligandaki River in the southeast, Mt. Dhaulagiri is the main glacial source of the great Mygdi River.
Mt. Dhaulagiri Mountaineering Expeditions with serval routes to the base camp for the climb. The straightforward and shortest route is from Marpha Village, situated around the Kaligandaki River Valley of Lower Mustang.
The other route is clockwise direction from the town of Beni, and further Darbang village to reach its base camp. Which is the main trekking circuit, around Dhaulagiri for most trekkers and mountaineers.
To make the expeditions quite short and affordable for the climb of
Mt. Dhaulagiri. Native Everest has set the itinerary anticlockwise and straightforward route to reach Mt. Dhaulagiri Base Camp.
The adventure begins from the scenic city of Pokhara, and then heading towards Mygdi district around lower farm areas. Then towards cooler hills covered in dense forests of rhododendrons and pine trees reaching the Mustang district.
On leaving the green forest follow the Kaligandaki River upstream to the village, at Marpha. From this lovely village, the climb starts heading towards mountain wilderness crossing high pass over Thapa or Dhampus pass.
Then enter the wide Hidden Valley enclosed by towering snow peaks with close views of Mt. Dhaulagiri. After Hidden Valley crossing the high French Pass with downhill to Dhaulagiri Base Camp. To commence our adventure climb to the summit of Mt. Dhaulagiri.
The climb is undertaken after a few days of rest for acclimatization and climbing exercise. Twenty full days allocated for the big climb and ascent to the summit requires at least four high camps. Which makes the climb more accessible and safe to reach the summit of Mt. Dhaulagiri.
The last final camp III is at 7,400 m/24, 278 feet high, including the advance camp. From here, the climbers will take a big push to the top and accomplish the climb.

On the top of the summit feeling in high spirits amidst the spectacular panorama of snow peaks. As far as the eye can reach, from the summit, a safe descent to the base camp, after a victorious moment on top of Mt. Dhaulagiri.
Clearing the base camp, leaving nothing but the footprints, and then getting ready for the return journey back to Marpha Village.
